Reserve Bank of India (Rural Co-operative Banks – Miscellaneous) (Amendment) Directions, 2025
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued the Rural Co-operative Banks – Miscellaneous (Amendment) Directions, 2025 to update the regulatory framework for rural co-operative banks. The amendment modifies the existing master directions with immediate effect to enhance governance and operational clarity. Key additions include requirements for clear display of a bank’s full legal name in all communications and publicity, alongside any abbreviated branding, ensuring consistency with the Certificate of Registration and banking licence. The directions also stipulate that the nature of the bank—“co-operative bank/sahakari bank”—must be prominently shown in equal font size.
Further, the amendment introduces norms for State Co-operative Banks (StCBs) seeking inclusion in the Second Schedule to the RBI Act, specifying capital adequacy and supervisory criteria. These changes aim to strengthen transparency, brand identity, and regulatory compliance among rural co-operative banks.
