Reserve Bank of India (Urban Co-operative Banks – Branch Authorisation) Repeal Directions, 2025
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has repealed the Urban Co-operative Banks – Branch Authorisation Directions, 2025 and replaced them with updated branch authorisation directions issued on the same day.
The repeal ensures that the earlier directions issued on November 28, 2025, are formally withdrawn and superseded by the new version released on December 4, 2025. However, the RBI has clarified that actions taken, approvals granted, or liabilities accrued under the repealed directions will continue to be governed by their provisions as if they remain in force. This safeguard preserves legal continuity on rights, obligations, penalties, and proceedings started under the earlier framework.
The move reflects the RBI’s ongoing effort to refine regulatory frameworks for urban co-operative banks while ensuring that transition between regulatory instruments does not disrupt existing authorisations or supervisory processes.
