Reserve Bank of India (Local Area Banks – Credit Information Reporting) Amendment Directions, 2025
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued the Local Area Banks – Credit Information Reporting (Amendment) Directions, 2025 to strengthen credit reporting standards for local area banks (LABs). These amendments revise the earlier 2025 directions to improve the accuracy, timeliness, and completeness of credit information submitted to credit information companies (CICs).
Under the updated framework, credit information must be submitted as on the 9th, 16th, 23rd, and last day of each month, with full monthly files due by the 5th of the following month. Incremental data for new, closed, or modified accounts must be reported within four calendar days of each reference date. Additionally, LABs are required to report borrowers’ Central KYC (CKYC) numbers where available and correct any rejected data before future submissions.
Effective July 1, 2026, these changes aim to enhance credit data quality and support more reliable credit risk assessment across the financial sector.
